My Story

Grace and Peace,

I am Reverend, Dr. Heather Subera Blount, RWDC Founder/Senior Pastor. Growing up in Brooklyn, New York during the '80s prepared me for the world. The great Langston Hughes wrote "Mother to Son" a poem that inspired me to dream and work diligently towards improving the quality of my life and others. While I am not perfect, I strive to make improvements daily following the principles of holiness and biblical teachings of my ancestors. It was my uncle Glen who taught me the Lord's Prayer and my mother who introduced me to holiness. At age 13, after my grandmother passed away, I attended a NYC revival where I gave my life to the Lord. Shortly thereafter, I joined Brooklyn Tabernacle of Deliverance Center, Inc., and served under the late Bishop James F. Copeland. At the Tabernacle, I was licensed at age 16, as an Evangelist. I traveled, preaching and teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. At last, in 2005, I answered the call of Reverend and Pastor over time gradually growing into my role as a faith leader.

Shortly thereafter, in 2008, I became gravely ill battling chills and fevers ranging between106-107. I experienced the flesh falling from my legs, holding it in my hands, and wounds too many to count. I lived and survived Job's story. After being repeatedly misdiagnosed, in 2010, I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease and Pyoderma Gangrenosum. It was the mighty hands of God, the saint's prayers, and my physician's labor of love that saved my life. Today, I remain under the care of the greatest physician of all my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Even so, the doctors at Weill Cornell Presbyterian Hospital and Jill Robert Clinic of IBD routinely provide me with the best possible medical care.

My formal education is in criminal justice and law, public administration and policy, religious studies, and much more. My core professional competencies are rooted in research, leadership, management, coaching, governance, and political science. I enjoy serving New York City community members, lecturing, developing, creating, and problem-solving. My hobbies include cooking, baking, singing, listening to music, reading, swimming, reading, and spending quality time with God and my family. I belong to God, and I serve with this in mind. "I believe service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living here on earth." - Shirley Chisolm.

I could never have made it without God, the love of my life Mauricio, our children, and family, Special thanks to RWDC clergy, parishioners, youth, friends, mentors, and so many others for helping me to sustain. Despite the many challenges, giving up was never an option for me. Today, I am living life with purpose because it is divinely ordered by God. I trust the Lord Jesus Christ with my heart and soul.
